According to the data tracked by the ibuychem Research Institute, in May 2019, China imported 7.57 million tons of natural gas, including 4.43 million tons of liquefied natural gas and 3.14 million tons of gaseous natural gas.

The import of natural gas in China is obviously affected by seasonal factors. From the end of 2018 to the beginning of 2019, due to heating factors, China's natural gas import is at a high level. With the end of the heating season and the shutdown of some industrial users affected by environmental protection, the digestibility of natural gas is weakened. After February, the import of natural gas has declined.

From January to May 2019, China imported 39.5 million tons of natural gas, an increase of 13.18% compared with 34.9 million tons in the same period last year. Among them, the import of liquefied natural gas is 23.94 million tons, accounting for 60.61% of the import; the import of gaseous liquefied gas is 15.56 million tons, accounting for 39.39% of the import.

Australia, Qatar and Malaysia are still the main sources of LNG in China.

From January to May, Australia has surpassed Qatar as the main source of LNG in China, and the proportion of imports has increased from 48% in 2018 to 53%. This is mainly due to the fact that major domestic LNG suppliers such as CNOOC have signed many purchase and sale contracts with Australia, and some private enterprises in China have also purchased from Australia. 。

On the whole, China's natural gas shows a tight supply and demand pattern, but there is a certain seasonality. The supply of heating season is relatively tight, and the market turnover is weak in the second and third quarters. At present, the market is in the off-season of consumption, and the import volume is difficult to improve. In the fourth quarter, the residential gas consumption will be greatly increased, and the import volume will increase significantly. It is estimated that the total import volume of natural gas will reach 100 million tons in 2019, and the import volume of liquefied natural gas will hopefully exceed 60 million tons.
